November Ski Tracks

Welcome to Ski Tracks, the Vasa Ski Club newsletter.  Snow is just around the corner and the VSC is ramping things up for the skinny ski season.  In this issue you will hear about VSC membership renewal, Michigan Cup Racing, the annual ski swap and the Hickory Hills expansion.  The first images of the new VSC race suits are available for the first time.  As always, the VSC continues our mission to promote and encourage cross country skiing in the Grand Traverse region through recreation and competition. Join us in making Nordic skiing all that it can be here in Northern Michigan.  Eric Jean (Editor)

Michigan Cup - The Quest Will Soon Begin!

The Michigan Cup race series is the VSC's chance to ski and intermingle with recreational XC ski enthusiasts from all over the state. It's a great way to challenge yourself and meet others who share in your love of the sport. Individuals and the VSC earn points based on race placement of club members, so participation is a big factor. At the end of the season, the team with the most points gets the Michigan Cup, and individuals with the highest points get medals. After a couple years of allowing other teams to possess "The Cup", it's time to bring The Cup back home!

So check out the MI Cup schedule on our website, and mark your calendar for the races you want to target.  Hint: Plan to come to the VSC-sponsored race "Lakes of the North" in Mancelona, December 19. It's FREE to VSC members (including lunch!). Also be sure to sign up for races in the Vasa Festival of Races at Timber Ridge, Feb. 13/14.

Your MI Cup reps are Glenn Goodman (glenn@gbgpainting.com), Gussie Peterson (gussiepeterson@gmail.com), and Melinda Mitchell (melindajam@aol.com). Feel free to contact them for information or to arrange car pooling. A great resource for MI Cup and statewide XC ski happenings is www.nordicskiracer.com.

Yes, it’s that time again…..  time to shell out a few shekels to join or renew your membership in the VSC.  There are 3 easy ways to do this so pick your poison:

2.) Come to the Ski Swap on Saturday, November 21, at Brick Wheels, 10:00 AM -2:00 PM.  A free VSC luggage tag and VSC sticker will be given to all who sign up at “The Swap!"
