Forbush Freestyle In The Bag
Put this race on your list of “must-do” races for next year. This 2-lap race (9K/lap) has lots of rolling hills, and fun twists and turns through beautiful wooded trails. The Forbush staff and volunteers are warm and appreciative of your participation. There are lots of opportunities for spectators to see the action and cheer the racers on to victory! The snow this year was fast, though soft and mushy in sections, especially in the 2nd lap. There was a very tasty lunch at the end – a rarity at ski races these days!
The Vasa Ski Club was represented by these warriors: John O’Hearn, Melzar Coulter, Glenn Goodman, Milan Baic, Cliff Onthank, Denny Polzin, Tim Onthank, Gary Faria, and Gussie Peterson.

Hanson Hills 12 K Classic
Wax benches were all lined up in the parking lot at Hanson Hills as skiers frantically slopped on the Klister, trying to outwit the interesting snow conditions that greeted them that Sunday morning. Temperatures were in the mid-thirties, and rain was predicted. Hairies, Zero skis, and fish scales were also in the mix of potential winners. This was a race where the best wax (or no wax) wins! The winners of both the men's and women's races reportedly double poled the course; the second place men's finisher used his Zero skis. It was a mixed bag as to what worked best! The good news was that the rain held off until the last racer crossed the finish line. The sun even came out for a few minutes! Thanks to these Vasa racers who came out and showed our team colors: John O’Hearn, Glenn Goodman, Bryce Dreeszen, Frank Treadwell, Cliff Onthank, Bill Brundage, Curt Peterson, Gary Faria, Paula Dreeszen, Melinda Mitchell, Gussie Peterson and Paula Gale.

VASA Festival of Races – February 13/14
It’s coming right up so don’t forget to register for Traverse City’s own special race weekend, the North American Vasa! It’s the 40th anniversary of this TC tradition. Join the fun! The snow should be good, so time to commit.
If you are not up for racing, try the 12K non-competitive Short’s Short tour. All participants from the 12K to the 50K races will get this year’s awesome reversible Headsweats hat, as long as they are one of the 1st 550 skiers to sign up --- another reason to not delay!
Of course, if you’re not up for participating in the events, there are always volunteer opportunities. Volunteers get a special “Vasa Crew” Headsweats hat, another hot item for your hat collection. Contact Linda Deneen firstname.lastname@example.org about volunteering.
