Michigan Cup - We must defend!
The Vasa Ski Club is ready to defend our Michigan Cup crown! The Michigan Cup race series is the VSC's chance to ski and intermingle with recreational XC ski enthusiasts from all over the state. It's a great way to challenge yourself and meet others who share in your love of the sport. Individuals and the VSC earn points based on race placement of club members, so participation is a big factor. At the end of the season, the team with the most points gets the Michigan Cup, and individuals with the highest points get medals.
After a couple years of allowing other teams to possess "The Cup," is finally home (to stay) where it belongs. So check out the MI Cup schedule on our website, and mark your calendar for the races you want to target. Hint: Plan to come to the VSC-sponsored race "Lakes of the North" in Mancelona, December 17th. It's FREE to VSC members (including lunch!). This is the Michigan Cup opening race sponsored by the VSC. If you’re not racing, we could use your volunteer help! More details coming. Contact Curt Peterson. Also be sure to sign up for Michigan's premeir event, The VASA Festival of Races Feb. 11-12th.
Fall Membership Drive
Yes, it’s that time again…. Time to throw a few more dollars into the VSC kitty so we can continue all the great programs that help keep XC skiing alive and vibrant in the Grand Traverse region. Our annual membership dues are a major revenue source for our activities, but if you take advantage of all our membership benefits, it’s quite a bargain! To sign up, go to vasaskiclub.org and click onto the appropriate link at the top of the home page. Or you can saunter on down to our annual Ski Swap at Brick Wheels on Saturday, October 22, and a friendly VSC volunteer will help sign you up or you can renew at the club website. Finally, you can renew at the season kickoff party December 4th at The Filling Station. Cost is still just $25/person or $50/family. There are so many benefits of membership, you can't afford NOT to join. With you on board we can have another great year! Contact Gussie Peterson for more information.

Middle School Program
Last year about 75 student athletes from area middle schools participated in the VSC Middle School Ski Program. We expect the numbers to surpass 100 this year as the program builds on its success. We are looking for club members to help us teach this incredible group of kids.
Come on out on Tuesdays and Thursdays this winter beginning in January. You can help a little or you can help a lot, every coach can make a difference. We teach the kids the fundamentals and they teach us how fun skiing really can be. Stay tuned for training opportunities for coaches offered by the club.
