Snow Is On The Way
Reliable sources tell me that the base on the VASA Trail is solid and holding up well to the challenges Mother Nature is throwing at her. Please stay off of the groomed trail until cooler temps prevail and we can get the groomers running again.

VSC at the Cote Dame Marie Ski Loppet
Okay, so that wasn’t the best snow ever, but it was a race! With over 40 racers, Vasa Ski Club was a strong presence at the Cote Dame Marie Ski Loppet, Saturday January 21 at Hanson Hills. Thanks to the staff there who kept the trails closed most of the week to preserve the snow for us. In the Senior Men’s 26K freestyle race, top VSC finishers were Ben Lannin, Sam Holmes, Kevin Tarras, John O’Hearn and Anders Gillis. Racers earning Brumbaugh Cup points for the Women’s 13.3K freestyle race were Karen Kirt, Laura Webb and Laurie Padden.
VSC Juniors swept the podium in the men’s race with Ted Roe, Andrew Amato and Martin Chown finishing 1-2-3. Kelly Klettner, Abigail Jean and Katie Erhardt were the top Junior women for the club.
Congratulations also to Duane Amato (skate) and Frank ‘Jeremy’ Treadwell (classic) for their decisive victories in the Citizens 7.5 K races, which earned each of them a growler at Paddle Hard Brewing.
This week’s “Skiing for the Team” awards go to John Todd and Paula Dreezen. Before the race, John said he wasn’t sure he was up to the full 26K race, and might just call it done after the first 13K loop. He was reminded that finishing would earn us MI Cup points, and darned if he didn’t pull that off, and earned third in his age group too! Classic skier Paula Dreezen sacrificed a guaranteed win in the Women’s Classic Citizens race (which had no entrants) to ski classic in the Women’s freestyle race so she could earn MI Cup points for Vasa Ski Club. Way to Ski for the Team, John and Paula!

Good luck to everyone racing at the Noquemanon this Saturday in Marquette! Remember, the VSC facebook page is a good way to arrange carpooling to races. Think snow! Go VASA.
