Hello Vasa

It's that time of the year when everyone is busy, busy, busy. We have had social events with a great club trip to the UP, youth events, plenty of instruction, racing and some pretty great skiing. It looks like we have some warmer weather heading this way so make every day count. Here is what is happening.

Keepers of the Michigan Cup?

It was great to see so many Vasa Ski Club members (57!) at our season-opening Lakes of the North race on December 16.  Kudos to the racers who also skied the Forbush Time Trials the next day:  Gussie Peterson, Melinda Mitchell, Amelia Wilks, Sam Holmes, Kevin Tarras, Glenn Goodman, Ken Dawson, Curt Peterson, and Hap Wright.  At the inaugural two-day Tour de Michaywe, held the last weekend in December, VSC was well represented by Milan Baic (2nd), Glenn Goodman (3rd), and Randy Smith (6th).  Our Midwest Nordic Rendezvous interfered with plans to participate in the 6-hour relay, so Hap Wright braved the sub-zero temperatures ready to ski for Vasa, but lacked two more hearty teammates to form a 3-skier team!  Let’s not leave any teammate out in the cold again!

We have had some great skiing since our tropical meltdown.  The Cote Dame Marie is shifting location this Saturday, January 20, due to poor ski conditions at Hanson Hills.  The Skate races will be held at Forbush Corner instead.  There will be no Classic or Citizens races this year.  Details in the Wed. Jan 17 "trail conditions" report from Hanson Hills on nordicskiracer.com  This is a fun venue for a fun race.  Come race with us and help Vasa Ski Club keep the MI Cup!

Tuesday Night Sprints #2

We had some great racing last night at Timber Ridge for the second installment of Tuesday Night Sprints. It was a Classic 4K with none other than Sam Holmes taking the top honors for the men and Mary Lyon for the gals.  Next Tuesday we head across town to Hickory Hills for a head to head “Heat Style” skate event. The distance is yet to be determined six racers will compete at a time in each heat. The top three skaters will advance and those not advancing will head to a consolation bracket. These races are fun to watch and even more fun to race. Come on out and join us!
