Banff Is Coming

Plans are under way for an all NEW! EXCITING! Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour - TC, now in it’s 6th year! The big news this year is that the City Opera House will be our venue instead of the State Theatre. It’s scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, 6:00 pm. Doors open for sponsors at 5:15, and 5:30 for general seating. The “Afterglow” party will be held right in the atrium of the City Opera House, immediately following the film fest with a cash bar.

With our move to the City Opera House, we will need more volunteers to help with seating, ticket taking and other related duties. Please contact Paula Gale smithengale@speedconnect.com if you’d like to pitch in.  We are also looking for more sponsorships to help with the increased expenses of the Opera House. Sponsorships levels are $250, $500, and $1000. Proceeds go to support our ever growing youth programs. Tickets will go on sale soon. Watch for more information in this VSC newsletter and on the VSC website www.vasaskiclub.org.

Saving Snow

Have you ever wondered whether we’ll ever have winters like we used to?  The new norm seems to be canceled ski events from way too many winter warm-ups. We have all felt the effects of this trend, but especially those in the ski business.

Mark your calendars and plan to attend “Saving Snow,” a documentary on the effects of our warming winters showcasing the canceled 2017 Birkebeiner. The film will be followed by a lively panel discussion featuring Eli Brown, fresh from the Olympics in South Korea where he was on the wax team for the gold medal-winning Women’s XC ski team!

MI Cup News

The Boyne Mountain Vista 10K race on Saturday, Feb. 24 has been canceled.

Michigan Cup Relays

The VSC Needs YOU! Heads up all you VSCers! The final race of the Michigan Cup race series is the relays on Sunday, March 11 at XC Ski Headquarters at Higgins Lake. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! This is a super fun and festive event (big party afterwards!!!) where teams of three (one classic and 2 skate) compete for the final points in the MI Cup race series. The Vasa Ski Club needs YOU to assure that we retain the MI Cup. These points count a lot and can make or break us. You can organize your own team or let Melinda Mitchell know if you want her to put you on a VSC team melindajam@aol.com. The relay is only 5-7K per leg so don't worry if you aren't a hot shot skier. Every team gets points and your points matter. There is no individual timing or points. Hope you can join the fun!
