Weekly Happenings
LET'S GO!! Plans for Jan. 6, 2021
Yep, we're going to give this a whirl, providing the predicted freezing rain doesn't force us to cancel. Watch for an early email and/or FB msgs on SheSkis and Vasa Ski Club pages if the weather doesn't cooperate.....no messages tomorrow means we're skiing!!
Here's the plan with many apologies due to snow conditions to those of you who are unable to get away during the daytime...hopefully we can gather at 6:00 at Timber Ridge, too NEXT Wed., Jan. 13
10:00 am Option #1 Classic only at Interlochen Golf Course with optional carry out lunch at Bradley's afterward (we can do a physically distant "tailgate" in the parking lot). Be ready to ski at 10:00 so arrive early to get ready in your car. Gather in the Parking Lot, watching for Linda Deneen and Paula Dreeszen. Please email Linda Deneen at deneendaisy@charter.net to let us know you plan to be there.
10:00 am Option #2 Skate at Hickory Meadows with Gussie Peterson. Be ready to ski at 10:00 from the kiosk, so arrive early to get ready in your car. Watch for Gussie! Please email her at gussiepeterson1@icloud.com to let her know you plan to be there.
12:00 NOON Option #3 Skate at Hickory Meadows with Nancy Briggs and Fran Alfs. Be ready to ski at 12:00 from the kiosk, so arrive early to get ready in your car. Watch for Nancy and Fran! Please email Nancy Briggs at ccskilady@gmail.com to let us know you plan to be there.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as is possible tomorrow. Remember, this week is something, somewhere, sometime.....we'll get better at this as the snow gets better!! Bring your mask, water bottle and personal sanitization supplies....we need to be as careful and vigilant as possible, keeping at least two arms lengths away from one another at all times, to be able to do SheSkis at all this season!
Questions? Please call Linda Deneen - 231-409-5683.
Stay well and healthy, Linda

For now, ski on our own and enjoy the Holidays in the best possible ways.
SheSkis IMPORTANT UPDATE 11/17/20
Hello SheSkiers (Hill Bounders for the meantime!)!
Important Stuff for you!! Be sure to read all the way through each item, paying close attention to the dates and times in the last item about Timber Ridge.
1) In the Nov/Dec issue of Grand Traverse Woman magazine there is a coupon for 20% off ski items at Brick Wheels!! You need to go to their website and download the magazine, which is free and then print the page that has the coupon on it...This will take the place of our annual "Brick's Bonanza" since we unfortunately can't gather at the store. You can use your coupon any day you want to! Thank you, Brick Wheels!!!
2) Also in the same issue of GT Woman is an article and photo about SheSkis and it's origin..it's near the back of the magazine, but you'll want to read it and see the photo of last year's relays!
3) The sort of white ground this am makes each of us anxious to start skiing! Stay tuned on SheSkis and VSC FB pages and their websites about when we will gather informally at Bay Meadows, or possibly out to the Birches in Kalkaska to SKI!!
4) Hill Bounding will be at Gussie's home each Wednesday am at 10:00 starting from her driveway. Be sure to let her know you're planning to join in the fun...the ladies who went last week had a great work out and LOTS of laughs!! Contact Gussie at: gussiepeterson1@icloud.com
5) Trail Passes for Timber Ridge at Early Bird prices will be available THIS WEEKEND ONLY - 11/20 AND 11/21 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. You can actually go there and buy your pass! Each of us needs to purchase a pass to ski from TR out to the VasaTrail (and also to support our friends at Timber Ridge, who have always welcomed us with open arms since we began this program). You can also call and use your credit card over the phone which ever works best for you; if line is busy, leave message and someone will call you back - don't give your credit card# on the voice mail! More good news: Pricing is the same as last year!!
SINGLE - $89.00
FAMILY - $129.00
THESE DAYS ARE YOUR ONLY CHANCES TO GET EARLY BIRD PRICES - AFTER THIS, PRICES GO UP
SINGLE - $109
FAMILY - $129

SheSkis for 20-21 Season
Greetings All!
Several of us recently met via Zoom to put together a tentative plan for the coming season based on the responses that were received after the first email was sent. From what we can tell, you want to ski together in some way, shape or form and some want to have some Dry Land Training, so here is what we put together!
FIRST AND FORMOST: EVERYONE'S HEALTH AND WELFARE IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE - MASKS AND PHYSICAL DISTANCING WILL BE REQUIRED OF ALL WHO CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE - MASKS MAY BE REMOVED WHILE ACTIVELY SKIING/TRAINING, BUT MUST REPLACED WHEN STOPPING TO REGROUP, ETC. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PERSONAL SANITIZING ITEMS SUCH AS WIPES, HAND SANITIZER AND TISSUES/KERCHIEF - NO SPITTING, FARMER BLOWS, ETC.
Dry Land Training: RSVP Gussie Peterson - Txt (989- 600-2180, or
email - gussiepeterson1@icloud.com
Hill Bounding @2:00 on Wednesday's - Meet in Peterson's driveway ready to go out!
Classic Skiing: RSVP Nancy Briggs - Txt (231) 409-2443, or

Meet at Kiosk for Hickory Meadows - no fees required; divide into groups depending on pace and distance; be ready to ski at NOON on Wednesday's! Lodge not available at this time, porta-potties will be! More details to follow...looks like food will be available to purchase via an app and outdoor seating around fire pits provided
Skate Skiing: RSVP Linda Deneen, for now - Txt (231) 409-5683, or
email - deneendaisy@charter.net
Meet in Parking Lot @ Timber Ridge - Timber Ridge Trail Pass Required and Grooming Badge recommended; divide into groups depending on pace and distance; be ready to ski at NOON on Wednesday's! Rest Rooms at Timber will be available for use and for changing.
Both Disciplines - Your Choice: RSVP Linda Deneen, for now - same infomation as for skating BUT
Meet at 6:00 pm on Wednesday's
Who knows when skiing will start, so stay tuned via email and FaceBook, on the SheSkis page and on this web site!
Hill Bounding will start when Gussie says so for those of you who RSVP to her.
Prior to actual skiing at Hickory and Timber, Bay Meadows Golf Course has always been a good spot to get in some "first tracks" - we'll gather at noon at Bay Meadows and use FaceBook pages to alert you. There's a possibility of going out to Twin Birches near Kalkaska as well, so watch for FB postings when we get a bit of snow covering the ground!
Ski Leaders - 2/session - are needed for the Noon Skate groups at Timber Ridge and for the 6:00 pm groups at Timber Ridge....please contact me to help with that!
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions and get yourself in shape for skiing!!
Looking forward to this season with much anticipation! It will be different, but we know it will be filled with as much fun as we can pack into it!!
Stay well!
Linda

Jan.29, 2020
We all have a great deal of fun skiing together, yet being SAFE skiing together is truly of utmost importance. This Wed., 1/29, Brian Beauchamp from TART and someone from GT Metro will be sharing important safety information about using the VASA Trail system should an emergency situation occur, or should you come across an emergency while out on the trails.....we will learn what to do, how to react, whom to contact, all those things that we hope we never have to use, but need to know should something unforseen occur. This is not first aid training, but it is an action plan laid out for all of us who use the VASA Trails. Try your very best to be at Timber Ridge this week!
The plan is to ski from 6-7:00, or you can certainly start earlier for a longer ski, but be in the Lodge by 7:00. Brian will begin promptly at 7:00 and we'll plan to be on our way home by 8:00.
On another note, SheSkis is planning on offering a series of "Advanced Technique" sessions for those of you who want to take your already competent skiing skill level to greater heights. We have several PSIA certified instructors lined up to accommodate both classic and skate styles, but we won't implement this offering unless enough of you commit to doing the sessions. There will be a fee of $30/person for three Wednesday's in February. The sessions would be during the regular SheSkis time of 6-7:00 pm and would not meet the Wed. we do the Relays. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know between now and Friday, 1/31 if you are ready to take this plunge. Non refundable payment in full would be expected at the first session, 2/5.
Here's a great offer for you!! Pat Bearup has a set of used once Blitz small face flip up ski goggles, complete with several lenses and case. She is asking $95. Contact her at: patbearup@yahoo.com
Jan. 22, 2020
Surprise in store for SheSkis this week as we meet at HICKORY HILLS with Todd Vigland rather than at TR....We'll gather in the Lodge a bit before 6:00 so Todd can go over the lay of the land and then we'll ski the Meadows area
Those who wish may want to go into the new Nordic Trails up in Hickory Hills after the introduction to the Meadows..this requires either a season pass or a daily pass, which you may purchase right in the Lodge
Bring some $$ for snacks/beverages in the Concession Stand that I hear has great food!
Dec. 11, 2019
We are in for a treat with Marilyn Schulz and Paula Dreeszen for a waxing clinic in the VSC waxing room adjacent to the Main Lodge. Gather at 6 - 7:00 pm in the Main Lodge at Timber Ridge. Learn not only how to care for your skis whether classic or skate, but also how to use the VSC waxing room. This is also THE VERY LAST TIME TO GET YOUR TIMBER RIDGE season pass at the "Early Bird" rates!! if you haven't purchased your pass yet, don't dally!!!!
December 4, 2019
